Michel is an accomplished violinist and instrument dealer. He and his wife possess a vary rare instrument called a Claviorganum. These instruments have an obscure history that Michel wanted to bring to light with a new recording of several 17th century works. This short excerpt promotes the recording and shares some details about how it came to be.
For the recording, I chose to use a stereo pair on the “organ” part of the large instrument, while capturing the strings using a single condenser microphone. Michel’s performance was also captured with a single condenser. Each trackon the album is the result of a is a single take from this live 4-channel setup.
